Sign of the Times
http://vimeo.com/1465284
This reminds me of the last time I traveled through Rawlins Wyo. Previously, as an adult I had come to realize this depressing little town of my childhood summers had one cool thing going for it: an awesome collection of vintage signage. Motels, laundry-mats, gas stations, etc. down through the decades of the mid 20th century, with unbelievably cool typography and design.
Except the last time I went through, it was all gone. I mean ALL of it. Every last scrap. It was as if either the town had stupidly decided to pass some sign-modernizing fiat, to wrongheadedly bring them into the 21st century, and in the process rip out the only bit of charm about the place. Or, some collector rolled through and just bought everything up lock stock and barrel.
Either way, it couldn't have been more dispiriting.

Spider Survey: figure 1

In which I undertake a long term project to casually record the amazing variety of flora and fauna found on our own little semi-suburban half-acre. In this case, spiders. This fellow was along the steps of the front porch, recently dampened with spring rain. About 3/4 to 1 inch long leg tip to leg tip, and held itself quite flat against the ground.

Running on Empty
Em's morning run schedule necessitates my going even earlier: 2 miles in 16:08 at 6:20 am. No time to eat first.

Logging miles
Ran 9 miles. Took an hour and 35 minutes. Trail running along Clear Creek. Hill running in the 7th mile, back up to the school track.
That's following on the usual 5.2 mile loop yesterday. 47:43, with an interior 5K at 27:30ish.
